35 hours per week, fixed term to 19 August 2018
Duties will include teaching pupils to play bagpipes, develop their musical literacy, aural awareness and interest in music making in 5 secondary schools and 5 primary schools in West Lothian. Lessons are taught in groups and there is a requirement for extracurricular work to be undertaken. Effective communication skills and the ability to self-motivate are essential. You will also be required to take the role of Pipe Major/Administrator for the West Lothian Schools Pipe Band Development Programme which currently includes 2 competing bands and feeder system. Rehearsals for this programme take place on a Thursday from 4pm to 6pm and Friday between 1pm and 4pm. Additional payment will be made for the Friday rehearsal.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the West Lothian Council.
