Glasgow-based theatre company Bletherbox are looking for a musician / composer to co-create and perform in a new theatre piece at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer. The piece is a new play and will be rehearsed in Glasgow in July, then play for the whole Fringe through August (we are currently negotiating with several respected and high profile Fringe venues). The role will be paid at equivalent to MU basic rate.
We are looking for a musician who will perform as part of the piece, and will work with us to create the music. We hope that the music and the piece will have a Scottish, folk-y feel, but we’re open to ideas and exploration. The piece is written to include both instrumental music and song: at the moment, this exists in the form of lyrics, and two adapted old folk songs. We’d be particularly interested in meeting musician-composers who are interested in improvisation in rehearsals, and in co-creating a recorded soundscape that mixes sound effects and other instrumentation with your own live music. The piece is written for two actors and a musician, but if actor-musicians apply we could explore different ways in which the piece might work. We think we’re looking for either a fiddler, an accordionist, a cellist, a guitar/mandolin player…. or possibly a multi-instrumentalist. We’re looking for creativity, flexibility, and an interest in working with singers and actors to tell a story. If we found the right actor-musician, we would develop the piece to give you an acting role within the piece.
Initially, we are looking to work with someone for three workshop sessions in late March / very early April (times/dates to be agreed), in Glasgow, prior to a work-in-progress showing (of part of the piece) to an invited audience at Platform, Easterhouse, on the afternoon of Wednesday 5th April. These sessions plus the work-in-progress showing will be paid at equivalent to MU basic rate.
