A rare opportunity to get hands-on experience of one of the world’s most thrilling musical instruments.
Over the 10 week course, you will learn the basics of this amazing instrument and of North Indian classical music. Courtesy of theSitarProject, we will lend you a sitar for the duration of the course so you can practise at home. In return we will expect you to practise regularly and take care of your sitar – they are very special instruments.
People from all backgrounds are welcome, and no prior knowledge of sitar or Indian music and culture is required, though having had experience of playing any musical instrument or singing is an advantage.
A follow on course Introduction to sitar 2 will be available starting on 16th January 2019.
The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland has teamed up with Edinburgh’s theSitarProject to provide this course. theSitarProject has been supporting people in Scotland who want to learn the sitar since 2005. theSitarProject is co-directed by Laurence Howells and Alejandro Cooper.
