The mentorship programme offers the opportunity for six womxn aged 16-21 to work on a real-life music project collaborating with mentors involved in various aspects of the production and release of HEISK’s upcoming album.
Mentees are invited to apply for any of the six roles in the specialist areas:
- Studio Recording
- Marketing & Branding
- Instrumental Performance
- Music Business
- Sound Production
- Live Sound
The programme offers early career young womxn the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working in the music industry. HEISK aims to promote career development for those currently under-represented in the industry across Scotland.
The mentorship programme will facilitate five womxn aged 16-21 to work collaboratively with mentors, including Craig McMahon (producer), Barry Reid (recording engineer), Jen Anderson (music business & marketing), Carla Feuerstein (live sound engineer) and one of the band (with a choice of instrument to suit interests).
Mentees will each receive one-to-one contact time with a mentor in a specialism of their interest and additional experience as a cohort across all specialisms. Mentees will also have the option of studying with The Academy of Music and Sound on a short course that links directly to their specialism.
Vibrant six-piece HEISK are a powerful force on the folk scene. Their relentlessly energetic music stems from their roots in Scottish traditional music and combines it with punchy riffs and grooves.
The programme will run from February – November 2023, following the production of HEISK’s upcoming album to its release. Mentees will receive expert knowledge, advice and guidance throughout this process to inspire a pathway into the creative industries, particularly the Scottish traditional music industry.
The aim is to make these positions as flexible as possible to fit around other commitments, with some being available remotely, however, some of the studio roles will require travel to Glasgow.
