Turn up and play. Spread the word!
Saturday 6 October will present an exceptional cèilidh in the foyer of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery with a live band to accompany singers and musicians. This is a pilot project and it is our aim to develop the festival for strengthening and expanding the performance base of Gaels and musicians living in the city. A piece of new Gaelic poetry will feature as a central part in the afternoon’s festivities along with a short piece of drama; a special event in unique surroundings.
Sunday will run into a series of pub music sessions where singers and musicians will collaborate and play through the afternoon led by some of Glasgow’s finest musicians including Seonaidh McIntyre, Padruig Morrison, Laura Wilkie, Robbie Greig and others. Sets of musicians will safari between traditionally Gaelic West End pubs to continue to keep the sessions varied whilst the singers will remain in place for the afternoon to keep some consistency. Musicians and singers are encouraged to take part in the music sessions.
It is with an eye on the 2019 Glasgow Mòd that we hope to establish Mòdrun as a Mòd fringe event. Through this, get the opportunity to work throughout the year with the Glasgow communities of Gaels, media and musicians to work towards creating a festival of collaboration to support the Gaels in the city and those taking part in Scottish music.
