Cumbernauld Theatre seek an imaginative composer/sound designer to join the core creative team for this year’s Christmas main stage production of Rapunzel.
The role will suit a music/composition artist who is excited by the potential of creating music to accompany theatre productions for children and families.
Cumbernauld Theatre’s Christmas shows are strongly story based rather than traditional pantomimes and typically make use a strong filmic approach to developing music underscore to accompany the action. They show running time is typically 1 hour 45 mins and approximately 45mins to 60 mins of original music is required.
You will work closely alongside the director both in-and-out of the rehearsal room, developing the entire sound design for the production from initial ideas through to full production in December 2019.
You will lead on creating create original music themes for the production as well as develop foley and supporting sound effects elements. You will not be required to compose music for songs.
Key dates:
Development of Initial Creative Ideas from draft script: Ad hoc during August/September 2018.
Deadline for completion of Key Themes and Effects to be used in rehearsal: by end October 2018
Start of Rehearsals: 5th November 2018 (3 weeks, attendance required at 1 session per week)
Technical/Production week deadline for all tracks: 26th November 2018 (attendance required at sound plot session and dress rehearsal)
Opens for First Preview: Friday 30th November

The fee for this work is £1,850 plus expenses for travel and/or overnight accommodation during theatre visits as agreed in advance.
