Could you be the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2019?
This is now the premier award for young traditional musicians in Scotland and many of our past winners have gone on to have success in the world of traditional music. The final of this annual event takes place during the Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow and performin in the finals can be the launch pad many young musicians need to kickstart their careers.
How to apply for BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award: Closing date Friday 6th July 2018.
Fill in the online application form at www.bbc.co.uk/youngtrad, sendin us a 10 min audio recording and a 1 min video recording of your playing, plus a short biography and paragraph explaining why you want to play traditional music.
Entrants must be aged 16-27 inclusive on 6th July 2018.
Entrants notified: Monday 13th August 2018
Semi-Finals Weekend: Friday 12th – 14th October 2018
A residential coaching weekend at Wiston Lodge, Wiston, South Lanarkshire. Semi-finals Competition Concert – Saturday 13th October 2018 at 7.30pm in Coulter Hall, Coulter, South Lanarkshire.
Grand Final: Sunday 27th January 2019, 5-8pm
Celtic Connections Festival, Glasgow
The Grand FRinal will be broadcast live on BBC Radio Scotland from The City Halls, Glasgow as part of the Celtic Connections Festival and the winner will be announced live on air.
Prizes
The winner of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award 2019 will be awarded a recording session with BBC Radio Scotland, performance at the Scots Trad Music Awards, one year’s membership of Musicians’ Union, and all finalists get one year’s membership of Traditional Music and Song Association ply the opportunity to take part in the TMSA’s annual Young Trad Tour.
