The Distil Showcase is on Friday 10th April 2015 in Stirling Tolbooth, 8pm. The concert will feature 10 new pieces of music written by composers who have taken part in the Distil Residential. The music will be performed by the fabulous Mr McFall’s Chamber. You can buy a ticket here. Read more about the Showcase here.
Chris Greive has written the piece “Nisquemeth”. Here is some information on it.
This piece will be bringing together some elements of the trad Jazz traditions I’m very familiar with (blues forms, old New Orleans & work song) that I feel bear some relationship to the inner workings of some traditional Scottish music and the way I hear it.
As well as experiment with the textures available within McFalls I’m adding Low Whistle. I’ve heard whistle being used in a ‘calling’, almost imitating voice, so I’ll involve that sound/texture (voice like…am thinking of it invoking ‘Leadbelly’ blues guitarist) & I’d also like to work rhythmically so that there is contrast in the piece between the melodic, rhythmic underpinning & space.
