Laura Jane Wilkie has written the piece “Guttersnipe”. Here is some information it.
This piece of music was written with the concept of perception, over the last 5 or 6 years i’ve been perplexed, fascinated, humoured and devastated by my own and other’s around me, relating particularly to mental illness: addictions, different sorts of depression and eating disorders.
I and others everywhere are affected by our own (at times) distorted view of reality and we all look upon things in a different way, from viewing different situations, even objects (black and blue/white and gold?!) from totally opposing angles.
In my experience of distorted reality, I could LITERALLY see feel and hear things that did not exist- and created a Mr. Hyde ‘ if you like within myself without really noticing. Everyone has a darkness in them but in recovery- ive learned to learn from it and to not allow fear of future or regret of past to skew the view and to be accepting of the here and now.
and My piece is called ‘Guttersnipe’
Guttersnipe was 1 of 2 sisters who featured in my dad’s made up bedtime stories to my younger sister and I when we were very wee. The different phases of my relationship with my younger sisters through this illness have been intense and difficult but (difficult at times to see) loving – as with any family trying to understand something they can’t really do anything about.
Although this isnt really a ‘nice’ piece of music – I hope that it somehow airs the good bad and ugly in you and that you can embrace it all! Ta! L
