Distil was formed on the premise that we wanted traditional musicians to have an opportunity to further their learning. Since we started in 2002 this has always been our guiding light. The Distil Scratch band has come about in order to give musicians at shot at trying to write shorter ideas that are not necessarily a whole piece (although it could be) or they maybe looking for opportunities to write for a certain instrument.
We want to help musicians gain the experience to write out parts for these instruments. Musicians can write a full 5 minute piece of music or it could be a simple idea that you want to try. Dave Milligan is the musical director and will be on hand to advise and help you on the day.
Our first scratch band was based on writing for drums. The second scratch band day is moving this idea forward and will be about writing for rhythm section.
Distil Scratch Band 3 is again looking at writing for rhythm section and will be on 25th May 2016. If you would like to take part fill in the form here.
Read the report from our first Scratch Day on 16th September 2014 in Glasgow concentrating on writing for bass and drums.
