Please find below a copy of the guidelines and application form for the Young Scottish Jazz Musician 2015 competition.
This year’s competition is organised, managed and produced by Glasgow International Jazz Festival Ltd with funding from Creative Scotland.
The overall winner will hold the title for one calendar year.
The Final is to be hosted by Glasgow International Jazz Festival on
Wednesday 24th June 2015
Interested musicians should be between the ages of 16 and 25 on 30th April 2015 and have a residential address in Scotland.

IMPORTANT – Please include the following with your completed application;
• recording of 2 tracks, no more than 3 minutes each in duration
(MP3, CD or Soundcloud link accepted)
• a short biography detailing your musical experience to date
(approx 50 words)
N.B. Recording may be solo or accompanied (e.g. with playalong) but MUST include an element of improvisation

RULES OF THE COMPETITION
APPLICATIONS must be received no later than Friday 24th April 2015
An adjudication panel will choose 10 semi-finalists from entries received. The preliminary round will be a blind adjudication i.e. the panel will not know who has applied or who they are listening to.
All semi-finalists will be notified during the week ending Friday 1st May 2015.
SEMI-FINAL – May 15/16th – Tolbooth, Stirling
The semi-final will be held at Tolbooth, Stirling. Applicants should make sure they are available to arrive in Stirling on the evening of Friday May 15th for a meal and some introductory sessions, preparing for an all day event on Saturday 16th May. This will include workshops, rehearsals and a performance (10 minute slot) with a resident rhythm section. Performances will be judged by a panel of professional jazz musicians, educators and promoters. A maximum of 5 finalists will be chosen.
The finalists will be announced w/c 18th May 2015.
FINAL – Wednesday June 24th, Rio Club, Merchant Square, Candleriggs, Glasgow
The final will be held at the Rio Club, Candleriggs, Glasgow as part of the Glasgow International Jazz Festival. Finalists will perform for 10 minutes. A professional rhythm section will be provided. You should be available for most of the day as rehearsal time will be allocated from early afternoon on the day. The final will be recorded live by BBC Radio Scotland for their Jazz House programme. *tbc
The Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year 2015 will be the musician who, in the opinion of the panel of judges, best displays the potential to pursue a career in jazz music.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants should be between the ages of 18 and 25 on 30th April 2015 and have a residential address in Scotland. Previous winners of the competition cannot re-apply.
Applicants should ensure they are available for the semi-final and final before applying.
PRIZES
The winner will receive a cash prize as well as the opportunity to perform at a number of festivals and venues throughout the following year. A full list of prizes will be announced at the semi-final.
