The semi-finalists of this years BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2016 Award have been announced. The musicians from all over Scotland showcase the amazing talent we have in Scotland playing traditional music at this moment.
Simon Thoumire, Creative Director of Hands Up for Trad says “Again the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician gives us an amazing snapshot of the strength of Scotland’s young trad musicians. The scene has never been in better shape.”
The semi-finalists are:
Neil Ewart – fiddle
Gemma Donald – fiddle
Hannah Macrae – fiddle
Laura Wilkie – fiddle
Mohsen Amini – concertina
Elinor Evans – clarsach
Grant McFarlane – accordion
James Harper – bagpipes
Jessica Burton – clarsach
Katie MacFarlane – song
Murray Willis – accordion
Robbie Greig – fiddle
Ryan Young – fiddle
All musicians attend the semi-finals weekend in Wiston Lodge, South Lanarkshire 2-4th October and perform at a concert on Saturday 3rd October in Coulter Hall, Coulter, South Lanarkshire. From this concert 6 musicians are chosen to go through to finals at Celtic Connections festival in January 2016. You can buy tickets for the semi-finals by visiting www.youngtrad.scot.
This is the sixteenth year of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2016. Claire Hastings won the award in 2015 and has had an amazing year including performing with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in June.
