We asked Ruairidh Iain of Cuirm nam Bonn \u00d2ir le Ruairidh Gray<\/strong> the following questions.<\/p>\n

Tell us about yourself<\/strong>
\nMy name is Ruairidh Gray and I am a 1st Year Masters Traditional Music student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, my principal study is G\u00e0idhlig song. I come from South Uist.
\nThe event which has been nominated \u201cCuirm nam Bonn \u00d2ir le Ruairidh Gray\u201d, which took place on the 21st of March 2024, saw over 70 Royal National M\u00f2d Gold Medallists come together for a grand night of G\u00e0idhlig song and music. A concert in partnership with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, An Comunn G\u00e0idhealach and recorded by BBC Radio Nan G\u00e0idheal. With students from across 5 departments of the School of Music coming together to offer support to the singers, as well as well known Scottish musicians. In the magnificent setting of St. Aloysius RC Church, Glasgow, the event served as a highly emotional tribute to some of Scotlands finest G\u00e0idhlig singers and our most important G\u00e0idhlig institution.<\/p>\n

Why are you involved in Scottish music?<\/strong>
\nI have been my whole life. From learning songs at my mother\u2019s knee. G\u00e0idhlig of course being my native tongue. I am now an active singer on the Traditional music scene in Scotland and love it more than words can say.<\/p>\n

Any particular career highlights?<\/strong>
\nThere are many!
\nCuirm nam Bonn \u00d2ir le Ruairidh Gray
\nSinging in the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow
\nWinning two Gold Medals at the Royal National M\u00f2d in Perth 2022.
\nBeing voted MG ALBA Gaelic Singer of the Year 2022.<\/p>\n

However, my favourite venue still remains St. Peter\u2019s church hall in Daliburgh, South Uist.<\/p>\n

What are your plans for the future?<\/strong>
\nTo continue my studies in the RCS, continue with my singing and organising fantastic and exciting events!<\/p>\n
