We asked David of The World's Room<\/strong> the following questions.<\/p>\n

Tell us about yourself<\/strong>
\nThe World's Room was started by musicians Steve Byrne and Chris Wright as a platform for unaccompanied singers (Scots and Gaelic) in a format that allowed for more audience participation than a standard concert. Guests perform at the beginning and end of each half with the intervening period taken up with contributions from the assembled company. This allows for a great range of styles and repertoire, anchored by the expertise of the booked guests. The World's Room is now run by the Traditional Music Forum in Edinburgh and Aberdeen, and emphasis now is more on Scots song, with occasional guests from Ireland and England.<\/p>\n

Why are you involved in Scottish music?<\/strong>
\nTo give straightforward, unaccompanied Scots singing its place and to contribute to the safeguarding of this important part of our culture.<\/p>\n

Any particular career highlights?<\/strong>
\nOne particularly memorable night was a visit from the Goil\u00edn, a singing club in Dublin, whose members visited Edinburgh en masse. A magnificent night of singing.<\/p>\n

What are your plans for the future?<\/strong>
\nTo continue with the format, expanding from the two nights in Edinburgh and Aberdeen to other communities in Scotland.<\/p>\n
