Nominations open and Tickets are on sale this Monday 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0October for the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2022, as\u00a0organisers Hands Up for Trad announce the live awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 4th<\/sup>December 2022 in Dundee\u2019s Caird Hall in the heart of Scotland.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The popular annual\u00a0Awards is set to celebrate for its first full sized event post lockdown for its 20th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary with a spectacular once-in-a-generation night to remember, including the Youth Music Initiative which also celebrates its 20th<\/sup>anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOMINATE YOUR FAVOURITE ACT OR ORGANSATION<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Broadcast in partnership with headline sponsor MG ALBA on BBC ALBA, the awards ceremony will feature live performances from\u00a0Elephant Sessions<\/strong>, FARA<\/strong>, Trip<\/strong>, the Eryn Rae Trio<\/strong> (BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award Winner 2022), the Gordon Shand Scottish Dance Band<\/strong>, The Auldeners<\/strong>, St Roch\u2019s Irish Ministrels and Tayside Young Fiddlers<\/strong>,\u00a0plus a Tribute to James Alexander<\/strong>, Fochabers fiddle teacher and performer, from his former pupils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone can nominate their favourites to win the prestigious Awards via the website and links on social media between Tuesday October 4th<\/sup> and Sunday 16th<\/sup> October 2022, which usually generates over 100,000 public votes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organiser and Awards Founder Simon Thoumire of Hands Up For Trad said, \u201cIt\u2019s going to be an incredible evening, with so much live music and I\u2019m so grateful to all the bands and sponsors for getting involved to help us celebrate our 20th<\/sup> anniversary year, and excited to see who the public vote for. The Awards give recognition to excellence within Scotland’s thriving traditional musical culture. Encompassing all aspects of making and playing from composing, Gaelic song, folk and Scottish dance music to pipe bands and a host of others in between, each year sees a lively and enthusiastic crowd enjoying some of the biggest names as the industry and audiences join to honour singers, instrumentalists, composers and songwriters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This year the annual Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame is sponsored by F\u00e8isean <\/strong>nan G\u00e0idheal.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Fraser Shaw Trust, sponsoring the Club of the Year Award, was started after Fraser\u2019s passing from Multiple Sclerosis in May 2015, by a group of friends and family in his honour. Fraser Shaw was a brilliant piper, whistle player and composer from Glasgow. He had started playing the pipes at the age of 6, and at 16 moved to the Isle of Skye to study at Sabhal M\u00f2r Ostaig. The foremost aim of the Fraser Shaw Trust is to raise money for the relief of multiple sclerosis, particularly in Argyll, Scotland, through a series of projects and events celebrating Fraser and his music. The first project was to release his much anticipated Tunebook, along with an album comprised of his music.  Proceeds of the Tunebook go directly towards the MS Care Centre in Lochilphead. Proceeds of the album are used for the advancement of education, arts and culture and for the relief of those living with multiple sclerosis in Scotland, particularly on the Isle of Islay.
