Birnam CD (like Greentrax<\/a>) have been one of the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards<\/a> longest running sponsors. They’ve have been supporting us and sponsoring Album of the Year since 2003. Birnam CD were the second recipients of Hands Up for Trad\u2019s Business Limelight Award. The \u201cLimelight\u2019s\u201d are a monthly initiative (launched in October 2012) that recognises the outstanding contributions made by businesses and organisations who contribute, shape and influence the arts and cultural sector in Scotland today. Birnam CD have been meeting music users need since 1986 and taking all musicians through the many\u00a0transitions\u00a0that have happened since,<\/p>\n

We asked Martin Hadden of Birnam CD the following questions.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>What is your principle company activity?<\/strong>
\nMusic Services, including:
\nCD \/ DVD \/ Vinyl pressing & packaging; Media Promotion; Promotion of\u00a0artists to Festivals; Online Services (Downloads \/ streaming \/ online\u00a0CD\/DVD sales); Graphic Design<\/p>\n

When and where did the company first start trading?<\/strong>
\nStarted in 1986 in Fountainhall, Scottish Borders<\/p>\n

What made you want to work in Scottish culture?<\/strong>
\nMy first job within \u201cScottish Culture\u201d was when I joined the band\u00a0Silly Wizard in 1976. I was told that there would be lots of free beer\u00a0in the dressing rooms.<\/p>\n

I have worked in Scottish Culture, covering all areas of Scottish and\u00a0Scottish-made Music, from the age of 19. Apart from the promise of\u00a0free beer, I really can\u2019t remember what made me want to do so. I\u00a0didn\u2019t really think about it, just jumped on board!<\/p>\n

Can you tell us of any particular company highlights?<\/strong>
\nSuccessfully managing the move from being a cassette duplication\u00a0company to becoming a CD \/ DVD replication company.\u00a0Appointing Mike Garden as graphic designer, enabling us to add the\u00a0very highest standard of creative design to our range of services.\u00a0My son Calum joining the business in 2008. He takes care of our social\u00a0media presence and handles the digital services for our clients.\u00a0The redesign and launch of our new website in 2012.<\/p>\n

What are your company\u2019s plans for the future?<\/strong>
\nTo broaden our range of services to offer even more opportunities and\u00a0assistance to artists and labels. We will do so by expanding our\u00a0present promotional packages and by introducing new schemes to further\u00a0help our clients in spreading the word about their music.\u00a0To keep abreast of new developments as music delivery methods change.<\/p>\n

How will you celebrate receiving Hands Up for Trad\u2019s Business\u00a0Limelight award?<\/strong>
\nWe will fly to Las Vegas, hire a pool table and see what\u00a0develops\u2026\u2026\u2026.<\/p>\n

Either that or go for a curry in Dunkeld.<\/p>\n
