We asked Laura-Beth MacCrimmon of Kinnaris Quintet the following questions.<\/p>\n

Tell us about yourself<\/strong>
\nWe have been told our music is fresh, powerful, uplifting, emotional and euphoric, and it takes people on a bit of a journey. <\/p>\n

All vigorous, driving, high-spirited musicians in their own right Fiona MacAskill (fiddle), Laura Wilkie (fiddle), Aileen (Reid) Gobbi (5 string fiddle), Laura-Beth Salter (mandolin) and Jenn Butterworth (guitar) have all come together to form the brand-new quintet that is taking the Scottish traditional music scene by storm. Since their debut performance at the end of 2017, an extraordinary hype has surrounded them \u2013not only because of the calibre of musicians involved, all being well known and respected on the Scottish folk scene for their individual playing styles, but also down to the dynamic sound that emanates from their diverse musical backgrounds, influences and styles. Each of the band members are highly accomplished players\u2013with the accompaniment powerhouse that is Jenn Butterworth & Laura-Beth Salter, a duo in their own right, and three dynamic fiddle players, each with their own individual flair.<\/p>\n

Why are you involved in Scottish music?<\/strong>
\nWe are all based in Glasgow, and have all been steeped in traditional and folk music since we were very young. Most of us gravitated towards Glasgow (from various parts of Scotland and England) because of a thriving traditional and contemporary folk scene. It is a supportive, exciting, and vibrant scene to be a part of.
\nWe have been colouring various projects for many years individually with our own styles, and recently did our own thing with Kinnaris Quintet bringing all of our styles and influences together, which has been so lovingly accepted by the Scottish music scene!<\/p>\n

What are your plans for the future?<\/strong>
\nWe're looking forward to playing in The Barrowlands before Shooglenifty at this year's Celtic Connections<\/p>\n

Future hopes – do all the festivals, inspire some people, take over the world, make more new music, record more albums, do big band stuff someday, be able to retire…..the usual.<\/p>\n
