It was established by production company Inner Ear in April 2015 (in the back of a van on the way to Stornoway to live stream the Donald MacLeod Memorial Piping Competition). TRADtv was started because Inner Ear saw, through the traditional music events they covered – especially in their work with the National Piping Centre – both the enthusiasm and passion for Scottish culture that international audiences have and the lack of dedicated televisual coverage. So far all of the channel's content is original, created by Inner Ear's team. Most of its coverage is based around live streamed and on demand live music performances with some interview and feature material. We cover big events like the Glenfiddich Piping Championship, World Pipe Band Championships and World Highland Dancing Championships, parts of Celtic Connections and partner with Showcase Scotland Expo to capture exclusive sessions from The Visit. We also film select gigs and create special sessions in our studio and on location.

Why are you involved in Scottish music?
We have always been immersed in music. On a personal level all of our production team and contributors are musical in one way or another. Professionally TRADtv's parent company Inner Ear has always specialised in creating live and on demand music content. Music is a passion for everyone involved in TRADtv. And has been an immense privilege for us to be able to turn our passion into our profession.

With TRADtv we want to provide a platform for the most exciting elements of the traditional Scottish music scene and share it with a worldwide audience.

Any particular career highlights?
It's all been great! Filming live music is always a pleasure. We love getting involved in the big world championship events and striving to provide the best coverage we can. It's also a thrill to partner with projects like The Visit to capture exclusive sessions. And we relish the opportunity to work closely with outfits like The Shee, Tryst and The Big Music Society to create special features.

What are your plans for the future?
We want to raise the profile of TRADtv and reach as many people as we can. We are launching our first audio podcast series to complement our video programmes. In 2018 we will produce more live and on demand programmes and aim to include more interview and documentary features alongside our live music content.

Read more about TRADtv
http://www.tradtv.scot
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/tradtv
Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/tradtv

If you would like to come along to the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards in Paisley’s Lagoon Centre call 0300 300 1210 or to buy online visit www.paisley2021.co.uk/events/the-mg-alba-scots-trad-music-awards.
