We asked Alasdair MacIlleBh\u00e0in of Alasdair MacIlleBh\u00e0in the following questions.<\/p>\n

Tell us about yourself<\/strong>
\nDr. Alasdair C. Whyte is a Gaelic singer and songwriter from the Inner Hebridean island of Mull. He has recorded a solo album (\u2018Las\u2019, 2010) and, more recently, an album with WH\u024eTE (\u2018Fairich\u2019, 2016), the product of an ongoing collaboration with composer and musician Ross Whyte. Both albums feature traditional Gaelic songs and original Gaelic songs composed by Alasdair. Alasdair has also recorded with Struileag\/Shore to Shore (\u2018Children of the Smoke\u2019, 2014) and Niteworks (\u2018NW\u2019, 2015). He was awarded a Ph.D. in Celtic and Gaelic by the University of Glasgow in 2017.<\/p>\n

Why are you involved in Scottish music?<\/strong>
\nI was fortunate enough to be brought up within a family of Gaelic singers and traditional musicians and to have been educated in Celtic and Gaelic at the University of Glasgow. Song and music will be lifelong passions.<\/p>\n

Any particular career highlights?<\/strong>
\nThe An Comunn G\u00e0idhealach Gold Medal at the Royal National M\u00f2d in 2006.
\nWinning the Hands up For Trad\/Creative Scotland N\u00f2s \u00d9r 2017 songwriting competition with 'Cionran\u2019, an original Gaelic song composed by myself and Ross Whyte (WH\u024eTE).<\/p>\n

What are your plans for the future?<\/strong>
\nMore recording and performing with WH\u024eTE.
\nWriting more original Gaelic songs.
\nContinuing to learn about our cultural heritage, particularly that of my native area, and promoting it wherever I can.<\/p>\n
