In 2013, he won the An Comunn Gaidhealach Gold Medal for singing at the Royal National Mòd in Paisley. Later that year, he was named Up and Coming Artist of the Year at the MG Alba Scots Trad Awards. In 2016, he claimed top prize in the Traditional Solo Singing Competition at the International Pan Celtic Festival in Carlow, Ireland. He is the lead singer in Tide Lines and his Gaelic singing features on their debut album, Dreams We Never Lost, which reached number 14 in the iTunes UK Download Charts earlier this year.

Why are you involved in Scottish music?
I've been passionate about Scottish traditional music from a young age and I imagine if there were ever a time in which I was not involved, there would be a pretty significant void in my life.

Any particular career highlights?
Winning the Mòd Gold Medal four years ago is something I've always considered a highlight. Largely, I think, because I was always aware when growing up of the calibre of legendary Gaelic singers who have won the medal in years gone by.

There have been a lot of great highlights in 2017 with Tide Lines – playing at Lorient Interceltique Festival stands out as a very memorable week.

What are your plans for the future?
In the short term future, I am really looking forward to singing at a Celtic Connections event on the 26th January in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall called Òrain nan Gaidheal. The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra will be accompanying a really brilliant line up of Gaelic singers and I am delighted to be involved.

As for Tide Lines, Gaelic music and Gaelic song will always be a big part of our future as our plans develop – and we have been working on some fresh arrangements of Gaelic songs both old and new.

Read more about Robert Robertson
http://www.tidelinesband.com
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/
Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/

If you would like to come along to the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards in Paisley’s Lagoon Centre call 0300 300 1210 or to buy online visit www.paisley2021.co.uk/events/the-mg-alba-scots-trad-music-awards.
