We asked Mairi Campbell\u00a0the following questions.<\/p>\n

Tell us about yourself:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve worked in music profession for twenty eight years, always blending performing, writing, facilitation and\u2026bringing up a family.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m now up to seven albums which I can\u2019t quite believe. I\u2019ve co-written a few fine songs with David Francis; very few all on my own. Performed across the world. Sat in my studio hosting music retreats and in the same place – but different time, freaking out as I tried to find material for the new show!<\/p>\n

Why are you involved in Scottish music?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Because I love what it is and what it can do and what it does do!<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve always been interested in music and sound but in particular our traditional music. There\u2019s something powerful and gravitational about the players and the music they play. I needed to pay attention to that so got into it. That\u2019s the big picture.<\/p>\n

My influences have been in classical, traditional and free improv music. The most recent work is really drawing on all these elements, which is deeply satisfying.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also a great community of musicians here in Scotland, doing amazing work – like Simon Thoumire for instance!.<\/p>\n

2015: Preview of \u2018Mairi Campbell \u2018Pulse\u2019 preview in Edinburgh.<\/p>\n

2008: Having my version of Auld Lang Syne\u2019 placed in the pivotal scene of the blockbuster \u2018Sex and the City\u2019;<\/p>\n

Plans for the future<\/strong><\/p>\n

To continue working with Kath Burlinson and create more shows. Continue working with Dave Gray on amazing new tracks\u2026for other shows. Write loads of songs, learn to play the piano better.<\/p>\n
