Fiddle, feet, song and archive recordings combine to evoke an old-style ceilidh house, with the audience in the round, blurring the lines between performers and participants. Joyful, lively and thought-provoking, the show is an emotional journey to the heart of our heritage enjoyed in over 40 village halls and theatres around Scotland since it premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2025.

Any particular career highlights?
Our 2026 Scottish tour has seen the show play to sold-out audiences and standing ovations, including at Celtic Connections, Tradfest and Findhorn Bay Festival. The Scotsman awarded Deiseil: Dancing in Time a 5* theatre review at the Edinburgh Fringe, describing it as "joyful… tells an important story with the lightest of touches and doesn't put a foot wrong”. It's also been fantastic to see how it has strongly resonated with local audiences in village halls across the country, with many people telling us it's given them new insight into stepdance and Gaelic culture more widely.

We have been honoured to be joined by many guest artists throughout the tour, including Allan MacDonald and Mary Ann Kennedy (both of whom feature in the recorded audio track to the show) as well as Hamish Moore, Sophie Stephenson, Jayne MacLeod, David Francis, Emily Smith, Stan Chapman, Deirdre Graham, Fin Moore, Sarah Hoy and Mairi Campbell.

What are your plans for the future?
Our hope is that Deiseil: Dancing in Time is a springboard for more people to be aware of this aspect of our culture and to get involved with stepdance and its music. We plan to tour the show again in 2027, connecting with more audiences across Scotland. Through our organisation Deiseil Airson Dannsa we are also developing opportunities for people to learn stepdance and for more dancers and musicians to feel confident in sharing and teaching. It would be great to see people of all ages connect with the joy of stepdance and the music and song. As we say in the show, tha dannsa ceum beò – stepdance is alive!

Deiseil: Dancing in Time Social Media
Website: http://deiseil.scot
Facebook: @Deiseil Airson Dannsa
Instagram: @deiseilairsondannsa

Listen to music: http://

The 2026 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards are on the 5th December 2026 in Paisley Arena, Lagoon Centre!
