Isle of Barra Distillers are sponsors of the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2026 and are sponsoring Community Project of the Year. We asked them some questions about their company. If you would like to come to the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards on 5th December in Paisley Lagoon Centre you can buy tickets here.

We asked Emily Hutton about Isle of Barra Distillers.

Born on the southern edge of the Outer Hebrides, Isle of Barra Distillers is an independent, family-founded spirits company with a deep connection to the island it calls home.

Established in 2017, the company’s journey began with a simple ambition: to create exceptional spirits that capture the character, beauty and spirit of Barra, and to be able to share a little piece of the island with the wider world.

From its award-winning Isle of Barra Gin to Hebridean Vodka and Island Dark Rum, each spirit takes inspiration from the rugged coastlines, wild Atlantic waters and rich natural surroundings that make Barra so special.

Community and a strong sense of place sit at the heart of everything Isle of Barra Distillers does. As the company continues to grow and works towards opening its new island distillery, it remains committed to celebrating the traditions, creativity and people that make Scotland’s island communities so unique.

Isle of Barra Distillers is proud to support the BBC ALBA Trad Music Awards, recognising Scotland’s rich musical heritage and the talented individuals who continue to keep its traditions alive for generations to come.

It’s an exciting time for Isle of Barra Distillers as the independent, family-founded company continues to share a taste of the Outer Hebrides with the wider world. With growing international expansion across markets including the United States, Japan and Canada, the brand continues to introduce its island-inspired spirits to new audiences from Barra to beyond!

Closer to home, work continues on one of the company’s most ambitious projects to date: the development of Barra’s first legal single malt whisky distillery and visitor centre. This significant investment in the island’s future marks an exciting new chapter for the business, creating opportunities to welcome visitors, celebrate the island’s heritage and bring the spirit of Barra to life for generations to come.
