Photo: Paul Campbell<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Line up announced and nominations open for annual \u2018folk Oscars\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paisley is preparing to roll out the red carpet for Scotland\u2019s traditional music stars as it is confirmed as the host of the <strong>2026 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards<\/strong>, with nominations open from today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The biggest awards night of the year for the country\u2019s traditional music scene will celebrate the people and places powering the country\u2019s thriving folk scene at Paisley Arena on <strong>Saturday 5 December.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The public are being invited to put their nominations forward to recognise <strong><\/strong>musicians, singers, venues, festivals, organisations, teachers and more from across Scotland playing their part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Categories at the awards, which welcome nominations until <strong>18 October<\/strong>, include <strong>Album of the Year, Musician of the Year, Venue of the Year, Festival of the Year,<\/strong> and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotstradmusicawards\/voting\/\">NOMINATE NOW<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Na Trads,<\/strong> or the \u2018folk Oscars\u2019 as it\u2019s fondly known, will also welcome performances from celebrated names across the night, with the line up of acts announced today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Electrotrad group <strong>Valtos<\/strong> and Gaelic vocal trio <strong>Sian<\/strong> \u2013 two acts who have just made the Scottish Album of the Year long list \u2013 will be taking to the stage. <strong>Valtos\u2019<\/strong> performance comes off the back of a sensational set showcasing Scotland at its best at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Orkney folk quartet <strong>Gnoss<\/strong> will also be showcasing their upbeat sound, alongside folk fusion online sensations <strong>Spodo Komodo<\/strong>, and BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2026, <strong>Rachel Groves<\/strong>. Youngsters from Renfrewshire&#8217;s <strong>F\u00e8is Ph\u00e0islig,<\/strong> which celebrated 10 years last year, will also get the chance to share their talents with attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Long-time hosts <strong>Mary Ann Kennedy<\/strong> and <strong>Alistair Heather<\/strong> will be at the helm once again, as Paisley hosts the night showcasing the remarkable breadth and array of talent within Scotland\u2019s contemporary folk music scene. Tickets for the event\u2019s comeback to the town <a href=\"https:\/\/renfrewshireboxoffice.ticketsolve.com\/ticketbooth\/shows\/1173677168\">are on sale now<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scots Trad Music Awards organiser Simon Thoumire said:<\/strong> \u201cPaisley is a powerhouse of cultural creativity so we\u2019re hugely excited to be taking the Trad Awards back to the town this year! The awards are an opportunity for Scotland\u2019s traditional music scene to gather under one roof and recognise the energy, ingenuity and talent that exists. Traditional music is an important cultural asset for Scotland, which continues to find new audiences, and it\u2019s vital that we champion this. We also want to hear from fans about what organisations and acts have inspired them this year \u2013 come and let us know who deserves to be honoured, or better yet, come along to Paisley and celebrate the best of Scotland\u2019s trad music with us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Martyn MacDonald of Valtos said:<\/strong> \u201cThe Trad Awards are always a highlight of our year and it\u2019s an honour to be asked to play to a room full of our peers while they\u2019re being celebrated for their many talents.
