We asked Gary of Montrose Folk Club<\/strong> the following questions.<\/p>\n

Tell us about yourself<\/strong>
\nMontrose Folk Club has been running for over 40 years.
\nAfter COVID restrictions were lifted we relocated to our current venue in, the recently opened, Montrose Playhouse Cinema and Arts Centre.
\nLast year we celebrated our 40th anniversary with a packed programme including sold out shows by Karine Polwart and Kris Drever.<\/p>\n

Why are you involved in Scottish music?<\/strong>
\nThe club is run by a small group of dedicated enthusiasts with a wide range of musical tastes. While we enjoy hosting artists from all round the globe we particularly welcome Scottish artists both upcoming and established. It’s always a great pleasure to have artists making return visits as their careers develop.<\/p>\n

Any particular career highlights?<\/strong>
\nThe move to our current venue has been great for the club and seen a significant rise in average audience numbers in the last couple of years which is great not only for the club but the artists as well.
\nOur 40th anniversary celebrations last year were also a particular highlight.<\/p>\n

It also has to be said we’ve probably got the comfiest seats of any venue in Scotland!!<\/p>\n

What are your plans for the future?<\/strong>
\nWe plan to continue to provide programmes offering a wide range of acoustic based acts, whether home grown, from further afield, up and coming or established.
\nAngus has always had a rich heritage of music and Montrose Folk Club aim to be part of flying the flag for this area of the country for many years to come.<\/p>\n

The 2025 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards are on the 6th December 2025 in Aberdeen Music Hall! You will be able to watch it live in person (buy a ticket here<\/a>).
