Why not join us for a brilliant night of music and awards. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aberdeenperformingarts.com\/whats-on\/mg-alba-scots-trad-music-awards\/\">Buy a ticket here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We asked Rachel of <strong>Mairearad Green and Rachel Newton<\/strong> the following questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tell us about yourself<\/strong><br \/>\nMairearad Green &amp; Rachel Newton are both well established Scottish musicians and also cousins, their mothers hailing from Achnahaird, Coigach in the N.W. Highlands, where Mairearad was brought up.<\/p>\n<p>With this album, they&#8217;ve come together to celebrate and remember their Great-Great-Grandmother Anna Bh\u00e0n&#8217;s involvement in the successful women-led Coigach resistance of 1852\/53 during the Highland Clearances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why are you involved in Scottish music?<\/strong><br \/>\nMairearad and Rachel both attended F\u00e8is Rois when they were young and this sparked and nurtured a love for traditional music.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Any particular career highlights?<\/strong><br \/>\nMairearad and Rachel have both been awarded Composer of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards for previous projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are your plans for the future?<\/strong><br \/>\nWe plan to further celebrate our family history with a short film and more live performances of the music from our album Anna Bh\u00e0n.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mairearad Green and Rachel Newton Social Media<\/strong><br \/>\nWebsite: <a href=\"https:\/\/annabhan.bandcamp.com\">https:\/\/annabhan.bandcamp.com<\/a><br \/>\nFacebook:<br \/>\nInstagram:<br \/>\nYouTube:<br \/>\nTikTok:<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards are on the 6th December 2025 in Aberdeen Music Hall!
