We asked Anna Massie the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
I’m a guitarist and fiddle player, playing in a few different line-ups – Mairearad and Anna, RANT, Blazin’ Fiddles – and working as a session accompanist for many different singers. I also work as a producer, musical director and radio presenter.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
This music has always been part of my life. When I was wee, mum and I would dance at the ceilidhs my dad’s band were playing. Then I joined the ceilidh band as a teenager, and music became my career when I was still a student, after winning the Young Trad Musician of the Year Award in 2003. I love the music and the community involved with it.
Any particular career highlights?
There are many, but the past year has been particularly exciting – even lockdown has created some new avenues to explore! In fact, this year’s Trad Awards are a highlight – it’s very rewarding that a few things I’ve worked on have been recognised in the nominations.
What are your plans for the future?
More of the same, I hope! Also, the eternal trek towards a solo album continues…
