The 2026 Scots Language Awards tak place on Saturday 19th September at the iconic Discovery Centre, home of the RRS Discovery Ship (1pm). Reserve yer ticket here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The awards will be a daytime event this year, making them as inclusive and accessible to as many award nominees from across Scotland as possible. <\/p>\n

\nPerth High School is the biggest secondary in Perth and Kinross, wi bairns fae a ower oor bonnie Perth.<\/p>\n

Whit wis it got ye involvit wi the Scots leid?<\/strong>
\nWe hae aywis hid a handfu o passionate teachers fa champion the leid. Ower the years we hiv taken pairt in Scots projects with ither folk such as HES and Yaldi. It is firmly embedded in oor BGE curriculum, n were delighted fan new QS texts were added in Scots.<\/p>\n

Why dae ye feel it is important tae use Scots in everyday life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dae ye hae a favourite Scots phrase or saying?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is there a Scots speaker who inspires you?<\/strong>
\nWe are affa lucky tae hae writer Matthew Mackie on oor staff. We're aywis blethering aboot new wyes to get Scots in oor classrooms.<\/p>\n

Do you hear Scots spoken regularly in your local area? Have you noticed any changes over time?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ony particlar career heighlichts<\/strong>
\nWe hiv been quite successful at the Scots Language awards in the past. Stairting with Mrs Fraser won Scots teacher o the year in 2021, Scots project o the year in 2022, and Ms Aird takin hame the Scots teacher o the year in 2025. Scots School o the year is one we have been nominated for before, but never won.<\/p>\n

Wha’s yer plans fir the days aheid?<\/strong>
\nScots is pairt o oor BGE curriculum and senior classes learn it as pairt o oor their national exams. We will continue to encourage oor bairns to write and speak in Scots as much as we can. We love a Scots scrieving comp n are aywis gye happy to werk wi folk on ony scots projects.<\/p>\n
