We asked Ronny Costello of The Dode Fox Podcast the following questions.
Tell us aboot yersel or yer ootfit.
The Dode Fox Podcast is a weekly podcast from Ronny Costello & Paul McNicoll which discusses all things Dundee United related with new episodes published every Monday. We spend an hour every week talking about our team and have fans on as well as United players, ex-players and staff. We’re both born and bred dundonians who have been United fans since we fell oot the womb. Ronny is the matchday announcer at Tannadice and Paul is a season ticket holder along with his son and old man. We baith enjoy a hefty Scrandesliga, talking nonsense, lovin Ian Harkes and thinking about Big Beautiful Tony Andreu.
Whit wis it got ye involvit wi the Scots leid?
It’s all we’ve ever known. Grew up hearing ‘ehs’ and ‘kens’ and being oary. It’s the dundonian in us and we’re proud of that. We don’t dress that up on the podcast, what you hear is us. The same people you’d meet in a pub, afore 10pm these days mind you.
Ony particlar career heighlichts?
Getting our first Dundee United guest on, which was Andy McLaren. It was only our 9th episode and we got really good feedback from it and it was then we probably knew that we might even get through the season with this wee podcast idea that we had. All our guest have been brilliant, fans and players alike. Paul got to speak to one of his absolute heroes in Paul Sturrock, Brian Welsh swore his way through 90 minutes and Johnny Russell set the story straight about sharing a bed with Danny Swanson. We’ve also got our own range of merchandise that we sell and the support has been fantastic. And we seem to create our own silly catchphrases, some of which make it on to a t-shirt and/or mug… the latest being that Hamilton are the jobbie that winna flush.
Wha’s yer plans fir the days aheid?
Paul will be squeezing himself into his new home top, tanning aff some sweet chilli chicken pehs fae peh boabs and staring at photos of Ian Harkes. Ronny on the other hand will cut about just wearing his United gilet, ordering a doner hoagie and wondering if Pav and Big Mad Nadz will ever come home.
