Oor schail is in Hill o Beath which is a wee village situated close by Cowdenbeath, an near auld Dunfermline toon. We ur weel kent fur turnin oot famous fitbawers like Jim Baxter an Scot Broon. Oor schail is 130 years auld an is the hert o oor village. It has seeven classes that are fu o bonnie lassies an braw loddies. Scots is their mither tongue.
Whit wis it got ye involvit wi the Scots leid?
We hiv aye been involvit wi Scots in oor schail. We were awfy lucky tae hae Matthew Fitt cum in tae dae a residency in oor schail no sae lang ago. He wurked wi oor bairns, an oor dominaes, an wis able tae share his ideas wi us We aw learnt a lot an had muckle fun. Oor bairns eb slootly love their learnin in Scots. They aye hae a cheery coupon when they talk aboot whit they’ve been learnin. The maws an paws, an granmaws an granpaws, love it tae.
Ony particlar career heighlichts?
We hiv tae say that ane o oor career heighlichts has been wurkin wi Matthew Fitt. He gies us fantoosh ideas fur developinn Scots leid wi the bairns. We’ve alsae been wurkin on developin Scots Curriculum fur Excellence planners fur the schail.The Depute High-Heid Wan o Scotland, John Swinney, cam to see the wurk we’ve been dain in Scots. He wis astoonded! He thought oor bairns, richt fae Primary ane tae Primary seeven were pure brilliant.We even got a mention in the Scottish Parliament! We had oor Nativity Play in Scots as weel. The bairns learnt aw there lines an the sangs in Scots. Ah canny tell yae hoo guid they wur! Aw the maws an paws, an granmaws an granpaws, wur fair impressit! We’ve alsae been wurkin oan a fanntoosh Scots library. We cannae hae the books oot the noo cos o the lergie. Hooever. wance that aw sortit, we’ll hae a fantoosh Scots section in oor Schail Library. We’re even gaun tae hae props tae gan wi the books like hoolits an mooses an tods an the like.
Wha’s yer plans fir the days aheid?
We’re gonnae keep gaun wi developin Scots in oor schail. We’ll be usin oor new planners tae mak sure that we learn aboot Scots aw year. We’re awfy excitit aboot haein a new fantoosh recordin studio pit in oor new extension. We’ll be able tae use this fur aw sorts o learnin in Scots. We’re gaun tae be wurkin on anither muckle project whaur the bairns richt fae Nursery up ta Primary Seeven will wurk the thegither. We micht no be able tae pit oan a show due tae the lergie but we’ll share oor learnin in a Sway so that awbidy can join in. We alsae hae a chap by the name o Davy Lees gaun tae be wurkin wi ane o oor classes tae produce a sang in Scots. ( We’ll be able tae record it in oor studio tae!) Oor bairns are gonnae tak pairt in the Backpack Project. This project will use drama, music an art tae tell the story o an awy special local wummin cawd Jenny Lees (nae relation tae Davy!)
