Passionate. That’s what I would say if I could describe the Come Away In concert in one word. Throughout this spectacular concert featuring artists such as Karine Polwart, Siobhan Miller, Findlay Napier, Eddi Reader and Rab Noakes you could clearly see that each person was totally embraced in the moment. From joyful foot tapping to slowly nodding their heads to the music, every one of them showed that they really cared about the music.
Filmed in the captivating banquet hall of the City Chambers in Glasgow, Come Away In was inspired by Karine Polwart’s song of the same name, a salute to Scotland’s tradition of welcome and hospitality. It is also partly influenced by The Wren’s Nest, a short poem by Robert Burns.
In the beginning we are graced with Karine Polwart’s angelic vocals as she leads the performers in her song Come Away In. The chorus of the song was so catchy and as I sat in my kitchen eagerly watching the concert, my dad even had a go at singing along, even though he didn’t know the words (although he’d like to think otherwise!).
We also loved listening to the compelling lyrics in Findlay Napier’s songs which all have such a great, unique feel to them. Even the song titles themselves were brilliant e.g. Cod Liver Oil And the Orange Juice!
It was a lovely treat to watch Siobhan Miller perform Pound A Week Rise, one of my favourite songs of hers. When I was much younger, Siobhan actually came to my primary school to teach us some songs and I have been captivated by her phenomenal voice ever since!
Among the star-studded performers in the concert was Rab Noakes who sang some fab songs. One of the things I enjoyed the most was his really cool guitar playing. Seeing him strum away at it like that literally made me want to learn how to play too!
Another joy to listen to was the magnificent Eddi Reader whose beautiful singing was so mesmerizing. One song that I particularly enjoyed was Maid O The Loch. It was just so great to see how connected Eddi was to her singing!
Overall, this concert was an absolute delight to watch. Each and every one of these artists are so professional and wonderful in what they do, and they will definitely go down as legends in years to come!
