HANDS UP FOR TRAD ANNOUNCE CHORUS AWARDS 2016 WINNERS ONLINE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-4621\" src=\"http:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotlandsings\/files\/2016\/06\/ChorusAwards2016_logo-300x296.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotlandsings\/files\/2016\/06\/ChorusAwards2016_logo-300x296.jpg 300w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotlandsings\/files\/2016\/06\/ChorusAwards2016_logo-768x758.jpg 768w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotlandsings\/files\/2016\/06\/ChorusAwards2016_logo-1024x1010.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotlandsings\/files\/2016\/06\/ChorusAwards2016_logo-150x148.jpg 150w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotlandsings\/files\/2016\/06\/ChorusAwards2016_logo-500x493.jpg 500w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotlandsings\/files\/2016\/06\/ChorusAwards2016_logo.jpg 1264w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 247px) 100vw, 247px\" \/>Hands Up for Trad <\/strong>have become the first Scottish organisation to hold an entire awards ceremony online, after they unveiled the winners of the <strong>Scotland Sings Chorus Awards 2016<\/strong> by streaming live via Facebook today (Wednesday 29<sup>th<\/sup> June).<\/p>\n<p>Now in their second year, the Chorus Awards celebrate the talent behind Scottish choirs and honours people who dedicate their lives to promoting the joys of singing.<\/p>\n<p>Nominees and sponsors were invited to watch a live stream and were encouraged to interact throughout the \u201cceremony\u201d while organisers announced this year&#8217;s winners, with an unprecedented NUMBER logging in to find out who had won.&nbsp; The ceremony was then later posted on the Scotland Sings webpage.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights from the list of winners include <a href=\"http:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotlandsings\/chorus-award-winner-2015-ayr-choral-union\/\"><strong>Ayr Choral Union<\/strong><\/a>, who took home the <em>Milestone<\/em> award.&nbsp; Founded in 1876, they are one of Scotland\u2019s oldest amateur choirs and celebrate 140 years of greatest hits in October.<\/p>\n<p>Another notable win was <a href=\"http:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotlandsings\/chorus-award-winner-2015-timebank-temptations\/\"><strong>Timebank Temptations<\/strong><\/a>, who triumphed in the <em>Original Music <\/em>category.&nbsp; The group beat off stiff competition from Edinburgh&#8217;s Castle Chorus to take home the award after they were commissioned to write a song for the opening of the Gardener\u2019s Cottage at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<p>There were also three new categories at this year&#8217;s awards: Workplace, Newcomer and Inspirational Year.&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotlandsings\/chorus-award-winner-2015-tartan-tones\/\"><strong>Tartan Tones<\/strong><\/a>, who are part of the John Lewis Partnership Music Society which gives partners opportunities to make and share music, scooped Workplace, while <a href=\"http:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotlandsings\/chorus-award-winner-2015-the-royal-yacht-britannia-staff-choir\/\"><strong>The Royal Yacht Britannia Choir<\/strong><\/a> were awarded Newcomer Award and Inspiring Year Award went to <a href=\"http:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/scotlandsings\/chorus-award-winner-2015-the-edinburgh-singers\/\"><strong>The Edinburgh Singers<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Scotland Sings is a Hands Up for Trad project launched in 2012, designed to bring new participants and audiences together through singing. The initiative offers choirs, choir leaders and individual singers a platform to showcase their work.&nbsp; They launched the Chorus Awards n 2015 to recognise and celebrate Scotland\u2019s choirs who keep community spirit alive through song.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Event Founder and Hands Up for Trad Creative Director, Simon Thoumire, said: <\/strong><em>\u201cLast year was our first Chorus Awards and we can&#8217;t believe how much the awards have grown in a year.&nbsp; We&#8217;re thrilled to be honouring Scotland&#8217;s choirs once again and were blown away by the calibre of nominees this year.
