We are really excited to announce our new Scotland Sings initiative Paths to Songs. Its not a new idea as the tradition has been doing this for hundreds of years however we want to encourage young singers to learn from older tradition bearers. We want them to teach young singers how to communicate a song – be the vehicle for the song and not the other way around.
As you listen to pop music nowadays the lyrics are not about very much at all which has forced the song into second place behind the performer. This is no good. Many songs have lasted for hundreds of years and this is because singers have put the songs first and communicated them through the oral tradition to the next song bearer. The message in these songs are our culture our history, we can’t lose this. The song has to be first the singer second. It’s the only way. Paths for Songs wants to help this process along in 2013.
Do you know a young singer you could help or are you a young singer looking for help. Why not contact us and we’ll put you in touch.
