In 2005-6 a young Tenor, Alistair Digges, gave a number of highly acclaimed solo performances (including Haydn’s Creation and Handel’s Israel in Egypt) with The Edinburgh Singers. Now, 10 years later, he has become its Musical Director.
Alistair said “I am excited to be working with one of Edinburgh’s finest choirs and looking forward to exploring a vast repertoire and continuing the Singers’ mission of excellence in performance”.
An early test of this will come on Saturday, 18th April at St Cuthbert’s at the West End of Princes Street. “Made in America” will be a celebration of choral music from the USA, ranging from inspirational sacred works by Copland, Lauridsen and Whitacre, to familiar favourites like ‘Shenandoah’ and ‘Ol’ Man River’, and featuring the celebrated American baritone, Whitaker Mills.
Alistair is looking to expand the numbers as well as the repertoire of the Choir: “Anyone interested in having a lot of fun while honing their singing skills in a welcoming and energetic environment, do please get in touch via our website, tell us your voice part and a bit about your singing history and we’ll contact you to arrange an audition!”
