Linzi’s third session with Anne Neilson.
I had practiced Marie Hamilton and I sang it to Anne the way I’d learnt it again to see if there was any improvement, I suppose there was in some aspects but we had a discussion about what else could be improved upon and I made my notes for next time. We talked about different types of songs and picked some to start work on. Anne is extremely knowledgeable on the songs, which is brilliant as I’m really interested in learning about them. There was a great chat about the meanings of other songs including ‘Lamkin’ and ‘Fine Flooers in the Valley’ and I got some recordings of these from Anne to learn the tunes. My homework for next time is to keep practicing ‘Marie Hamilton’ and start work on ‘Rothesay O’, which I really liked the first time Anne sang it! I’ve also to learn, actually, imitate a verse of ‘MacCrimmon’s Lament’ as sung by Lizzie Higgins. I feel I’m starting to relax slightly more and am not so worried about making mistakes, really looking forward to the next session.
