Alison Burns told me about this great resource the other day. It’s not free but it is an excellent solution for delivering singing to young people. The text below is from their website.
What’s it all about?
Sing Up is an award-winning, not-for-profit organisation providing the complete singing solution for schools through resources, training and personalised support. Sing Up believes that all children have a right to good quality singing provision, to deepen their understanding of music and singing, bolster curriculum learning, and develop lasting tools to express themselves with confidence.
Sing Up was launched in 2007 as The National Singing Programme for Primary schools in England under the UK Government’s Music Manifesto. The four-year programme’s aim was to raise the status of singing and increase opportunities for children throughout the country to enjoy singing as part of their everyday lives, in and out of school. During this time, Sing Up was hugely successful and was used widely in around 95% of English primary schools.
In April 2012, Sing Up became a not-for-profit membership organisation, launching a Membership scheme offering packages for schools, freelancers and organisations.
With over seven years’ experience at the forefront of music education, Sing Up’s cross-curricular tools and support put singing at the heart of school life. We’re committed to ensuring Sing Up fits in with your teaching priorities, so our Membership includes a wide range of fantastic songs and teaching resources to help you include some singing in your lessons or to act as a complete foundation for singing and music across the school.
What is Sing Up Membership?
Our flexible, comprehensive Membership package is well-loved by primary school teachers throughout the country. Featuring an extensive online resource bank, Sing Up Membership gives teachers unique access to over 600 songs from pop to curriculum-focused hits, specially arranged for children’s voices. There are hundreds of comprehensive lesson and assembly plans that guide teachers through the Song Bank, making planning easy and learning fun.
An important component of Membership is the termly Sing Up Magazine, which comes with ten songs on CD and is filled with expert advice, teaching guidance, tips, case studies and teaching resources.
Placing Sing Up at the heart of school life can help forge a strong sense of community and raise attainment. Singing is a powerful medium to improve children’s health and happiness in school.
