MUSICIANS CAN WIN £500 & TOP-CLASS TUITION WITH HANDS UP FOR TRAD COMPETITION
After an incredibly successful debut year, Nòs Ùr is set to return giving Gaelic and Scot’s Song writers, singers and groups the chance to win £500 and one-on-one mentoring from established artists.
The Gaelic and Scots song writing competition founded by Hands Up for Trad in collaboration with Creative Scotland, will see the winners receive a lump sum of £500 each and mentoring with an experienced songwriter to the level of £500. There will be two winners – one for a Scots song and one for a Gaelic song.
Budding songwriters are invited to submit a new and original song in either language via the Hands Up for Trad website which will then be considered by an industry panel. To be in with a chance of winning, the hopefuls must submit entries by 7th April 2017: https://projects.handsupfortrad.scot/scotlandsings/nos-ur/
Nòs Ùr is part of Scotland Sings – a Hands Up for Trad project launched in 2012, designed to bring new participants and audiences together through singing. The initiative offers choirs, choir leaders and individual singers a platform to showcase their work.
Hands Up for Trad exists to promote Scottish traditional music through education, information and advocacy to artists, audiences and participants throughout Scotland and beyond.
Hands Up for Trad are supported by Creative Scotland, the development body for the arts and creative industries in Scotland, who enable people and organisations to work in and experience the creative industries in Scotland by helping them to develop great ideas and bring them to life.
Event Founder and Hands Up for Trad Creative Director, Simon Thoumire, said: “We have a wealth of incredibly talented musicians in Scotland and we’re really excited to be working with Creative Scotland to see what bright new stars Nòs Ùr unveils. To be in with the chance of winning £500 and on-on-one songwriting tuition with an industry professional, make sure you enter via the Hands Up for Trad website – good luck!”
Siobhan Anderson, Music Officer, Creative Scotland, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young song-writers in Scotland to contribute new additions to both the Scots and Gaelic song repertoires. The Scottish music scene is bursting with talented young performers and composers which the results of this competition will undoubtedly showcase.”
