I arrived at Rona from Sabhal Mor in Skye just before teatime. Once we’d finished the lovely meal we tucked into the songs. I went into these lessons with Rona with intention of learning songs connected and similar to pipe tunes. With Rona’s huge knowledge of pipe tunes and song we soon got stuck in to learning.
These songs are all in gaelic. The two tunes I have been given are Maol Donn, the song of the piobaireachd ‘MacCrimmons Sweetheart’ and Fhauir mi pog a laimh a Righ – I got a kiss of the kings hand.
The piobaireachd of Maol Donn’s melody is the same as the Song which I previously knew. It has a lovely melody which I don’t think I will ever tired of. I got a kiss of the kings hand is a very short song with on two
verses. I really like the song as its subject is so relatable. It’s great!
I look forward to our next meeting and lesson.
