We are very happy to announce the 2016 winners of Hands Up for Trad’s Scotland Live Awards – the initiative that aims increase the amount of music clubs in Scotland. The winners are:
Ainsley Hammill and Ryan Young: A monthly night of music in Tower Arts, Helensburgh
They aim to inspire young musicians in the area, help develop more of an interest in traditional music, and give young people an opportunity to showcase their talent at the club.
Susan Whyte and Simon Gall: Aberdeen various venues
Susan and Simon will programme high-quality, monthly, contemporary folk concerts at a small number of venues in Aberdeen City Centre.
Iain Cathcart: Clydesdale Accordion and Fiddle Club, Lanark
The club will follow the successful format of an open stage for club players and visitors with a band or guest artiste booked to close the first and second half. The club aims to encourage many of the country’s top players and bands to attend the club with a friendly welcome for all assured.
Next up with the clubs sending their business plans and the process of booking their acts to start in September. It’s all very exciting!
Our inaugural three clubs – Dundee Acoustic Music Club, Bishopton Folk and Arisaig Acoustic Music Club have been promoting great music to new audiences since September 2016. You can read about them here.
