Another way to look at it, is that there are not enough places for musicians to perform in across Scotland?
Hold on – there are lots of places to perform in across Scotland. Venue’s of all sizes in every region of Scotland.
So what is missing….? Promoters!
Actually there are lots of Promoters, doing an amazing job.
The problem is that they are (in the main) the same Promoters that have been doing an amazing job for a long time. We need younger Promoters to take up the mantel of running their own clubs.
One of the downsides of promoting music is. it’s not going to make you rich. What it is going to do, is make you feel good and make a difference to your community. Scottish music needs people who care and who want to make a difference. We need people who are passionate about music and are willing to take up the challenge of running a club, promoting the music we all love.
To this end The Scotland Live Awards exist to encourage young people to get together, form a committee and promote a regular music club. We are looking for 3 new clubs to start in September 2015, promoting 8 gigs each over a 12 month period. It would be brilliant to see people promoting Box and Fiddle clubs, folk clubs, Gaelic language clubs and more. If we can make this happen 2015 / 2016 will see 40 new gigs!
We are inviting applications from new Promoters who want to follow their love of music and set up a music club. We will give each of the 3 shortlisted new clubs £2000 each to help with set up costs. Each club will be mentored by an experienced Promoter, offering advice throughout the process. To apply to be part of the Scotland Live Awards, please fill in the form on this page after reading the terms and conditions of entry. The closing date is Friday March 13th 2015.
