The band performs acoustically, on gut-strung fiddles, cello, and Scottish small-pipes, recreating the sounds and techniques of the 18th century.
Callers Mairi Campbell and the irrepressible dancer/guitarist Steve Player will lead the audience through a range of strathspeys, reels, quicksteps and country dances. Dance steps and music are taken from 18th-century Scottish sources, brought to life through a tapestry of traditions and styles, with the energy of a modern Scottish ceilidh. Nathaniel Gow’s Dance Band: Ceilidh Nights are supported by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland’s Open Project Fund.

Creative Scotland’s Head of Music Alan Morrison said: “Creative Scotland is delighted to support a bit of time-travel, as the heritage of traditional music legend Nathaniel Gow comes alive through the skills of some of the best players the Scottish scene has to offer. Concerto Caledonia’s Ceilidh Nights sparkle with period authenticity but they’re all about audience participation too.
