They give awards of between \u00a3200 and \u00a32,000, totalling a minimum of \u00a370,000 per year; last year they supported 132 talented young musicians. There is help with all the major costs of a young musician\u2019s training, such as lessons, buying an instrument, travel and specialist courses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They support instrumentalists making music in any genre, and our key criteria are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Financial need (all applications are means-tested)<\/li>\n<li>Exceptional musical talent and potential<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Awards can help with costs including:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Buying or hiring a musical instrument<\/li>\n<li>Music lessons<\/li>\n<li>Weekend music schools<\/li>\n<li>Music courses<\/li>\n<li>Orchestra fees<\/li>\n<li>Travel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Applicants will need to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Show evidence of financial need<\/li>\n<li>Have ideally achieved a distinction in your last music exam \u2013 or, if you haven\u2019t taken exams, show evidence of this level of ability<\/li>\n<li>Be recommended by your music teacher and an organisation, orchestra or group where you play or practise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How to apply<\/p>\n<p>First of all please read their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.a-y-m.org.uk\/index.php\/awards-2014\">guidance notes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Complete the 2014 application form: once you have done this, email it back.<\/p>\n<h4>You also need to send to us some other documents. These are<\/h4>\n<p>Three references, as listed below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Music Teacher<\/li>\n<li>Head Teacher<\/li>\n<li>Recommending organisation&#8217;s form<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The HEAD TEACHER reference should be sent with your proof of income to Awards for Young Musicians.
