{"id":6748,"date":"2016-05-16T12:35:22","date_gmt":"2016-05-16T11:35:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/?p=6748"},"modified":"2016-05-17T12:38:43","modified_gmt":"2016-05-17T11:38:43","slug":"feis-rois-launches-new-interactive-app","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/feis-rois-launches-new-interactive-app\/","title":{"rendered":"F\u00e8is Rois launches new interactive app"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_6747\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6747\" style=\"width: 212px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2016\/05\/img_0040-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"212\" height=\"300\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2016\/05\/img_0040-1.jpg\" title=\"\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6747\" srcset=\"https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2016\/05\/img_0040-1.jpg 2480w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2016\/05\/img_0040-1-212x300.jpg 212w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2016\/05\/img_0040-1-768x1086.jpg 768w, https:\/\/projects.handsupfortrad.scot\/handsupfortrad\/files\/2016\/05\/img_0040-1-724x1024.jpg 724w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 212px) 100vw, 212px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6747\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Feis Rois Fun Day<\/figcaption><\/figure>On 1st June 2016, nationally acclaimed youth arts organisation, F\u00e8is Rois launches a new app introducing young children to traditional music, song, story and dance.<br \/>\nFun Folk will be free to download on Apple and Android devices and, through a series of fun activities, allows young children to explore Gaelic and Scots songs, as well as learning about traditional Scottish musical instruments.<\/p>\n<p>The app will be launched at a Creativity Day hosted by F\u00e8is Rois at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.funfolk.eventbrite.com\">Scottish Storytelling Centre<\/a> in Edinburgh on 1st June.<br \/>\nF\u00e8is Rois Education Manager, Rachael Duff said: \u201cThis is an exciting opportunity for F\u00e8is Rois to reach out from its Ross-Shire base and enable children and their teachers and families around the world to engage with traditional Scottish music, song, story and dance.\u201d<br \/>\nThe app features a host of well-known musicians and singers, including former BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Robyn Stapleton and M\u00f2d Gold Medallist, Darren MacLean.<br \/>\nFunded by Creative Scotland\u2019s Youth Music Initiative, the F\u00e8is Rois Fun Folk project involved a team of research artists, led by singer Michelle Burke, who worked with over 400 children in nursery schools in Edinburgh, Glasgow, North Lanarkshire and Highland. They collated a number of songs, games, activities, stories and dances that feature on the app.<br \/>\nAward winning animator, Gavin C Robinson brought the ideas to life through design and animation with the music and stories being recorded by Barry Reid and a team of professional musicians from bands including Treacherous Orchestra and The Shee. &nbsp;<br \/>\nF\u00e8is Rois invites nursery staff, parents, students, children aged 3 \u2013 5years and others working in Early Years settings to join in a fun day of creative workshops to celebrate the launch of the Fun Folk app. Opening the event on 1st June will be renowned Gaelic singer, Julie Fowlis. Those attending the event will have the opportunity to sing with Julie in a Gaelic song workshop.<br \/>\nThe Creativity Day will be filled with inspiring workshops led by some of Scotland\u2019s finest traditional musicians and storytellers along with Fun Folk app developers Flo-Culture, Rachel Drury from Starcatchers, Dr Ben Fletcher who helped develop Catherine Wheels app, White and Frances Rive from the City of Edinburgh Council. &nbsp; &nbsp;<br \/>\nFor more information about the Fun Folk Project please visit the schools section of the F\u00e8is Rois website at www.feisrois.org.
