Merlin Academy Of Trad Music<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0are the eleventh recipients of Hands Up for Trad\u2019s Business Limelight Award. The \u201cLimelight\u2019s\u201d are a monthly initiative (launched in October 2012) that recognises the outstanding contributions made by businesses and organisations who contribute, shape and influence the arts and cultural sector in Scotland today.\u00a0Merlin Academy Of Trad Music\u00a0supply top quality music tuition to all ages and abilities in the Borders<\/p>\n

\"\"What is your principle company activity?<\/strong>
\nWe supply top quality music tuition to all ages and abilities within a
\nsafe and welcoming environment. We offer tuition in Fiddle, Accordion,
\nGuitar, Mandolin, Piano\/Keyboard, Whistle, Sax, Singing and Percussion<\/p>\n

When and where did the company first start trading?<\/strong>
\nWe started trading in March 2012 at our current address.<\/p>\n

What made you want to work in Scottish culture?<\/strong>
\nWe all have a keen interest in Trad music and identified the need to
\nprovide a facility which could promote Scottish traditional music to
\nthe local community.<\/p>\n

Can you tell us of any particular company highlights?<\/strong>
\nWe now have 200 students per week and 10 outstanding tutors including
\nIain Fraser (fiddle), Paul Chamberlain (Accordion\/Piano & Steve Fivey
\n(drums & percussion. We hold an annual summer school where the
\nparticipants have supported our patrons, Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham, as
\nwell as performing at the Innerleithen Music Festival this year<\/p>\n

What are your company\u2019s plans for the future?<\/strong>
\nWe are commited to growing our student numbers and instruments taught
\nwhile still maintaining top quality tuition. We are also looking to
\nexpand our on site music caf\u00e9 where students can relax with a coffee
\nand maybe a tune or two.<\/p>\n

How will you celebrate receiving Hands Up for Trad\u2019s Business<\/strong>
\nLimelight award?<\/strong>
\nWe will make an announcement to our students and local press then
\nprobably a wee session with a dram or two!!<\/p>\n
