American country legend Emmylou Harris, <\/strong>trad-rockers Skerryvore <\/strong>and Palestinian singer-songwriter Amal Kaawash <\/strong>were among dozens of performers who wowed tens of thousands of fans across more than 80 gigs and events during the first celebratory weekend of Celtic Connections<\/strong> that fused international music, dance and friendship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ross Ainslie<\/strong>, Ali Hutton<\/strong> and MC Stuart Cassells<\/strong> led a breathtaking, colourful, sombrero wearing fun filled finale for the Gordon Duncan Tribute Pipe Band<\/strong> at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Saturday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

RuMac<\/strong> and Jarad Rowan<\/strong> played a powerhouse set at SWG3, while Katie Gregson-MacLeod<\/strong> at The Barony Hall, and the Rose of Bamako Rokia Kon\u00e9<\/strong> at Saint Luke\u2019s, brought sophistication to the weekend sounds to packed out audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the acclaimed Danny Kyle Open Stage<\/strong>, The House of Song<\/strong>, Drygate Brewery<\/strong> Late Sessions<\/strong>, and the welcome return of the Festival Club <\/strong>to the beloved Glasgow Art School<\/strong> were absolutely brimming with talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family fun burst out in smiles across Family Ceilidhs<\/strong> and Mini Manoeuvres<\/strong>, and future Scottish folk stars and virtuoso piano blended traditional and classical crafts to present the RCS Traditional Music Showcase and Mhairi Hall: Of The Land<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, Deacon Blue<\/strong> stars Ricky Ross and Lorraine MacIntosh<\/strong>, Karen Matheson<\/strong>, Siobhan Miller<\/strong>, Michael McGoldrick<\/strong>, Kris Drever<\/strong>, Tommy Sands<\/strong>, Lisa O\u2019Neil<\/strong>, along with Billy Bragg<\/strong>, Karine Polwart<\/strong> and many more headed an all-star cast with Stewart Lee<\/strong> for True & Bold: A Night for Dick Gaughan<\/strong>, a special celebration of the life and work of a man credited as being one of Scotland\u2019s most influential folk singer-songwriters.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other events included Americana at Cottiers Theatre for An Evening With Watchhouse<\/strong>, Pragsan<\/strong> and Dana<\/strong> in the Strathclyde Suite in the concert hall, and New Voices<\/strong> featuring Luc McNally.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next week\u2019s festival highlights include The MacLean Brothers <\/strong>and Special Guests, Mon Rovia, <\/strong>Irish singing legend Sharon Shannon<\/strong>, The Ayoub Sisters<\/strong> with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra<\/strong>, and The Chair<\/strong> Orkney Anniversary Special with Fara<\/strong> and Gnoss<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 110,000 people are expected to attend Celtic Connections, which runs until 1 February. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
