A special concert will be held on 21 November at Inverurie\u2019s Acorn Centre to celebrate the remarkable life and legacy of Charlie Allan, the much-loved North East farmer, writer, musician, and athlete whose influence touched many over decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charlie Allan, who died in 2023, was known for his deep connection to rural life, his gift for songwriting, his passion for music, and his champion exploits as a heavy athlete at Highland Games. This event brings together friends, family, fellow singers, and admirers to honour his multifaceted life through the art forms he loved \u2013 words and music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening, which is being organised by the Friends of the Elphinstone Institute, will include performances from Charlie\u2019s musical family, local musicians including Bothy Ballad Champion of Champions, Paddy Buchanan, writers, and special guests who worked with or were inspired by Charlie over the years. Some of the characters from his long-running Herald column on North East life will also feature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Charlie had an ability to connect with people whether through his writing, his songs, or a blether at the mart,\u2019 said David Francis, Chair of the Friends of the Elphinstone. \u2018This concert is our way of saying thank you and remembering a remarkable man.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
