Gratis editorial photo.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gies a Scots Poem Day<\/strong> saw the launch of this year\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>Scots Language Awards<\/strong>, which will return to Ayrshire in 2025 after a successful first visit to the area last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking place at&nbsp;<strong>Cumnock Town Hall&nbsp;<\/strong>on&nbsp;<strong>Saturday 13th September<\/strong>, the&nbsp;<strong>Scots Language Awards<\/strong>&nbsp;are Scotland\u2019s annual celebration and night of recognition for all those involved in the promotion of the Scots leid \u2013 one of Scotland\u2019s designated indigenous languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the first time, to coincide with the staging of the event, award organisers<strong>&nbsp;Hands Up For Trad<\/strong>, will work with learning resource&nbsp;<strong>Scots Hoose<\/strong>&nbsp;to deliver Scots language sessions to schools across Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahead of the event\u2019s return, Scots speakers across Scotland are today demonstrating their love for the language by sharing their favourite Scots poems for&nbsp;<strong>Gies a Scots Poem Day<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 a&nbsp;<strong>Scottish Poetry Library&nbsp;<\/strong>initiative aimed to get people sharing the language at home and online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now in its third year,&nbsp;<strong>Gies a Scots Poem Day&nbsp;<\/strong>aims to promote Scots language poetry in all Its forms, with poems representing the breadth of Scots spoken across the country, such as Doric, Shetlandic and Dundonian.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s content from the&nbsp;<strong>Scottish Poetry Library<\/strong>&nbsp;includes works by&nbsp;<strong>Taylor Dyson<\/strong>, the new Scots Scriever based at the National Library of Scotland, as well as commissions from around a dozen poets. Members of the public are encouraged to post their own favourite Scot\u2019s poems and recordings on social media across the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2025 will be the seventh edition of the&nbsp;<strong>Scots Language Awards<\/strong>, delivered by Scottish cultural organisation&nbsp;<strong>Hands Up For Trad<\/strong>&nbsp;who work to highlight the importance of Scotland\u2019s traditional arts and languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Award categories will span business, literature, work in the community, and more, recognising figures and organisations working across society in the Scots tongue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The night will be hosted by\u00a0<strong>Taylor Dyson<\/strong>\u00a0and Scots creative\u00a0<strong>Lynne Campbell<\/strong>, with performances from some of the brightest lights in Scots music and poetry, including Aberdeenshire folk singer\u00a0<strong>Ellie Beaton<\/strong>, Edinburgh Scots singer\u00a0<strong>Amy Leach<\/strong>, musician\u00a0<strong>Catriona Hawksworth<\/strong>, local Burns purveyor\u00a0<strong>Wullie Dick<\/strong> and Scots slam poet <strong>Hamish MacDonald<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scots Leid Award organiser an Hands Up For Trad Creative Director, Simon Thoumire haed thae wirds:&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cThe Scots leid is gaun fae strength tae strength, and we\u2019re thrilled tae see the Scots Language Awards return tae Ayrshire, hame tae sic a rich cultural heritage. We can\u2019t wait tae bring the Scots language community thegither again, and wi\u2019 new initiatives lik the Scots Hoose school sessions, we\u2019re ensuring the next generation can share in the pride an passion for oor mither tongue. It\u2019s set tae be a nicht tae remember, an we cannae wait!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>East Ayrshire Provost Claire Leitch said:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cI\u2019m awfa chuffed that the Scots Language Award will return tae East Ayrshire this year. I\u2019m looking forward to gaun along, celebrating the talented performers and aw the folk fae across Scotland who are dedicated who are encouraging us to use oor \u2018mither tongue\u2019!
