\"\"The 16K Design Works are the seventeenth recipients of Hands Up for Trad\u2019s Business Limelight Award. The \u201cLimelight\u2019s\u201d are a monthly initiative (launched in October 2012) that recognises the outstanding contributions made by businesses and organisations who contribute, shape and influence the arts and cultural sector in Scotland today. The 16K Design Works\u00a0have created exciting and original design works since 1997 and have worked with some of Scotland’s top magazines, labels and musicians. We asked Paul Galbraith of The 16K Design Works the following questions:<\/p>\n

What is your principle company activity?<\/strong>
\nCreative Graphic Design & Illustration<\/p>\n

When and where did the company first start trading?<\/strong>
\nEdinburgh 1997<\/p>\n

What made you want to work in Scottish culture?<\/strong>
\nIt all started from a deep love of music really!
\nI began designing the advertising for various club nights I was promoting or dj-ing at whilst studying at Edinburgh University. These being well received, lead to designing for other peoples club nights, and the rest they say is history.<\/p>\n

\"16Kdesign_logo_RGB\"<\/a>Can you tell us of any particular company highlights?<\/strong>
\nCreating exciting artwork for any project is always a highlight, seeing something beautiful I didn’t expect emerging from the ether!
\nBut project-wise there have been many highlights too. It was great to work on a website for the Channel 4 documentary ‘The First World War in Colour’ in our early days. And winning ‘Best Magazine Design’ at the Scottish PPA Awards for Clash Magazine, and ‘Best Magazine Cover Design’ at the UK wide Maggies was a treat.
\nBut back near the beginning, being introduced to the Scottish Folk\/Trad scene through working with Martyn Bennett after he had spotted a club flyer of ours he liked, was great too, he’ll always be missed here.<\/p>\n

What are your company’s plans for the future?<\/strong>
\nCreating things of beauty I haven’t thought of yet will always be what keeps us going. But our new website is currently being built, so we’re looking forward to being able to use it as a tool to spread our wings, both with who we work with, where they’re located and with what we do.
\nOh, and world domination of course!<\/p>\n

How will you celebrate receiving Hands Up for Trad’s Business Limelight award?<\/strong>
\nA wee dram (or two)!<\/p>\n
