Leading Scottish artists set to dazzle crowds at Cherry Hinton in the Year of Scotland<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cambridge Folk Festival<\/strong>\u00a0is partnering with\u00a0Showcase Scotland Expo<\/strong>\u00a0to host the finest emerging artists from north of the border in an unparalleled initiative for an English festival from\u00a0Thursday 25 – Sunday 28 July 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dozens auditioned for twelve coveted spots on the event\u2019s three stages at Cherry Hinton Hall<\/strong>, resulting in a hugely talented and eclectic line-up of musicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Performing on Stage 3 are:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • \u201cRefreshingly contemporary\u201d (Folk Radio), award-winning instrumental folk trio Assynt<\/strong>, who combine the myriad talents of BBC Scotland Young Musician of the Year finalists Graham Mackenzie<\/strong> (fiddle) and David Sheddon<\/strong> (pipes\/whistles), and BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner Innes White<\/strong> (guitar).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Stirling five-piece Constant Follower<\/strong>, created by frontman Stephen McCall<\/strong> and featuring Andrew Pankhurst<\/strong> (guitar),Amy Campbell<\/strong> (backing vocals\/synth) and Kathleen Stosch<\/strong> (backing vocals, synth and bass), play soaring, ambient experimental folk music.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Steeped in tradition, Eabhal<\/strong> have made a significant impact on the Scottish music scene with their vibrant and energetic folk and distinctive West Coast sound. The band\u2019s focus on kinship, and connection to people and the land are keenly reflected in its music and identity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Up-and-coming six-piece folk band Falasgair<\/strong> came together in 2021 and have been wowing audiences with their energetic live performances ever since. Central to the band are the close-knit community of their home on Skye and the melting-pot of cultures in their new base of Glasgow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Renowned vocalist Hannah Rarity<\/strong> honed her craft at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and performs a carefully chosen blend of traditional, contemporary and self-penned material. Her ethereal voice is reminiscent of legends such as Eva Cassidy and Cara Dillon.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Alt-folk trio Paper Sparrows<\/strong>\u2019 sound centres on their distinctive twin-acoustic guitar style, finger-picking harmonies and double bass. The bandmates\u2019 friendship and humour, in addition to their musicianship and great songs, make them a must-see live act.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Paul McKenna<\/strong>, whose band the New York Times dubbed \u201cThe best folk band to have come out of Scotland in the last twenty years\u201d will appear solo, sharing a love of traditional music and contemporary, dynamic compositions, all underpinned by Paul\u2019s stunning vocals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Sian<\/strong> comprises three of today\u2019s most exquisitely gifted young Gaelic singers \u2013 Ceitlin Lilidh<\/strong>, Eilidh Cormack<\/strong> andEllen MacDonald<\/strong>. Their deep feeling for tradition with boldly imaginative harmony work has seen them likened to The Staves and even Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Critically acclaimed Ainsley Hamill<\/strong>, whose 2021 debut album scored Folk Album of the Month in the Guardian, specialises in Scottish Gaelic and English songs, sung with an extraordinary voice which has been compared to Adele, Julie Fowlis and Heather Small.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Meanwhile, playing Stage 2 are:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Scottish quartet, Birdvox<\/strong>, a shapeshifting supergroup of female musicians \u2013 Sarah Hayes<\/strong>, Jenny Sturgeon<\/strong>, Inge Thomson<\/strong> and Charlotte Printer<\/strong> \u2013 gleefully fusing the traditional with the electronic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • The Langan Band<\/strong>, whose three members were initially brought together by a deep respect for traditional Scottish song and music and discovered a mutual love of the regeneration of these pieces into provocative and fascinating new compositions. This went on to inform the band\u2019s now mostly original repertoire and has resulted in a musical experience quite unlike any other.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Irvine Welsh calls Dean Owens & The Sinners<\/strong> \u201cthe pulse of all our lives\u201d and the multiple Americana UK award-winner, dubbed \u201cEdinburgh\u2019s finest\u201d really knows how to delight a live audience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Closing the festival\u2019s Stage 1<\/strong> on Sunday evening, in a fitting finale highlighting the huge impact of Scottish music, will be Blue Rose Code\u2019s Caledonian Soul Cavalcade<\/strong>. Edinburgh-born Ross Wilson<\/strong> (aka Blue Rose Code), renowned for his powerful blend of alt-folk, jazz and blues, will be backed by a five-piece band and a horn section. Together they will perform inventive selections from the Scottish Songbook aided by a star-studded line-up of friends, including Karine Polwart<\/strong>, Justin Currie<\/strong>(Del Amitri), Steve Knightley<\/strong> and Danny Thompson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Alongside the world-class music, there is so much more to enjoy over the festival weekend, including dedicated children\u2019s activities; workshops on instrument making and song writing; a silent disco, storytelling, clog dancing, tai-chi, and an incredible selection of mouth-watering food trucks and bars from some of Cambridge’s finest food merchants. The festival is also proud to have been deemed “outstanding\u201d at the Greener Festival Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
