Competitors wishing to take part in the 2024 event, taking place from\u00a0<strong>11-19 October 2024<\/strong>\u00a0in<strong>Oban<\/strong>, have until midnight on\u00a0<strong>Friday 31 May 2024\u00a0<\/strong>to submit their entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oban is fondly recognised as the home of the M\u00f2d, with&nbsp;An Comunn G\u00e0idhealach,&nbsp;the central&nbsp;organisation who run the Royal National M\u00f2d and the network of provincial M\u00f2ds across Scotland, being founded there in 1891.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the first ever M\u00f2d also being held in the Argyllshire town in 1892, Oban&nbsp;welcomes back Gaeldom\u2019s premiere musical and cultural event for the 17th time in 2024, continuing its legacy on the West Coast.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The M\u00f2d revisited Paisley last year, marking the second time the Renfrewshire town had hosted the festival in a decade.&nbsp;Paisley&nbsp;built on its successful legacy from 2013 by delivering another superb festival, welcoming over 8,000 visitors, including over 2,000 participants, to over 200 events. It is hoped the Oban event will see an even greater swell of audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>full list of competitions<\/strong>&nbsp;taking place for Oban\u2019s 2024 M\u00f2d, including singing, b\u00e0rdachd, instrumental, drama and Highland dancing categories, can be found in the M\u00f2d syllabuses at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ancomunn.co.uk\/nationalmod\/syllabus\">ancomunn.co.uk\/nationalmod\/syllabus<\/a>&nbsp;and entries can be submitted at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/enter.ancomunn.co.uk\/\">https:\/\/enter.ancomunn.co.uk\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The online element remains a popular way for those wishing to take part in the event from afar and allows competitors to enter, record and upload their performances through the digital system. The online competitions and performances will be showcased via the Royal National M\u00f2d\u2019s social media channels as part of the event in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outside the syllabus, the popular&nbsp;<strong>TikTok competition<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Sruth&nbsp;<\/strong>event will make a welcome return to the 2024 programme. Sruth is an event aimed at encouraging more natural conversation among young people and is a&nbsp;fantastic opportunity to meet and chat with some of the most well-known faces in the Gaelic world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The senior competition syllabus will also welcome back the latest addition of an&nbsp;<strong>accompanied choirs\u2019 competition<\/strong>, aimed at harmony singing groups consisting of between five and ten singers.&nbsp;<strong>The CalMac Competition<\/strong>, a solo singing contest newly introduced at last year\u2019s M\u00f2d, open to adult learners, will also return for 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The M\u00f2d&nbsp;<strong>art exhibition and competition<\/strong>&nbsp;will also enjoy its third year as part of the M\u00f2d. Co-ordinated by the Highland Society of London, the hugely popular event champions creative works from across the Highlands and Islands. The exhibition will feature a special exhibition of last year\u2019s winner, David Greenall of An Lanntair, Stornoway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Marina MacKay, M\u00f2d Officer at<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>An Comunn Gaidhealach, said:&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cI strongly urge anyone thinking about applying for the 2024 M\u00f2d to take the step to submit an application. Year after year, we see an incredible array of talent showcased, and we expect this year\u2019s festival in Oban to be no different.&nbsp;New faces often bring a fresh perspective to the M\u00f2d, enriching our community with their talent and enthusiasm, so we encourage those who have not competed before to get involved. As ever we expect to welcome the very best singers and players from across the Gaeldom to compete, and also to socialise and celebrate at this important annual gathering.
